I am about to be ‘switched on'. Do I need to buy batteries now?
At the time of being switched on, you will receive a package from your audiologist containing accessories for your implant processor. In this package you will usually find a packet of batteries for your implant as well as the rechargeable batteries and charger.
Some users choose to use the rechargeable batteries. Other users prefer to use zinc-air batteries because you get more battery life between battery changeovers. It is, of course, a personal choice.
If you choose to use rechargeable batteries, you do not necessarily need to purchase zinc-air batteries (such as the Power One Implant Plus or Rayovac Implant Pro+) right away. We do believe, however, it is prudent to have a few packets of non-rechargeable zinc-air batteries and the zinc-air battery unit ready should you find yourself without any fully charged rechargeable batteries at hand.
A number of our customers who routinely use the rechargeable batteries choose to use the zinc-air batteries whilst travelling. Depending on where you are travelling you may not always be able to access a reliable power source to recharge the batteries. You also don’t need to worry about carrying the charger.
If you choose to use zinc-air batteries (such as the Power One Implant Plus or Rayovac Implant Pro+), we recommend placing an order for additional implant batteries before you are switched on. We suggest starting off with ten packets (one box) of batteries.
